General Rules of Conduct & Posting
» 1. Please refrain from making posts containing no content.
This includes things like, "first post!,""QFE," "+1" and etc. As a general rule, write as if you were speaking in real life to another human being.

» 2. No AOL Speak, we're not 10-year olds.
Capitalizing and spelling correctly will get you more respect too. Don't make a post with all caps. EX: OMG! datz so col lulzs! i'm 133t ^________ ^; ;; and WHY WON'T ANYONE LISTEN TO ME!!!11!

Top

» 3. Emoticons are OK, but go easy alright?
We have a nice selection, by the way.

Top

» 4. Don't be a jerk.
Arguing is fine, but trolling a thread is not. Trolling is defined as not adding anything to the discussion, but trying to piss people off for no reason other than to cause trouble. There's a difference between teasing someone and being a jerk..

Top

» 5. No introduction threads unless a mod posts an "Introduction Mega-Thread" that you can introduce yourself in.
Personal introduction threads are low content and clutter things.

Top

» 6. Don't bump dead threads unless you have an outstanding contribution.
Quoting a month old post, just to say you agree with it isn't an outstanding contribution.

Top

» 7. No backseat moderation please.
You won't magically become a mod if you start saying that certain people should be banned. HOWEVER, you are more than welcome to report posts you think or breaking the rules and I encourage that. I can't read every single post and can't be online 24 hours a day. Reports are sent to my e-mail that I check often. Don't report people just because they disagree with you.

Top

» 8. If you have a problem or question about your probation or ban, send me an e-mail.
No need to create drama on the forum or the HAJET listserv.

Top

» 9. Don't post personal information or personal pictures of other people.
It will be deleted and you'll be banned. If you break up with someone, posting a picture of them naked is not a good way to get over it, so don't. However, myspace/facebook/photobucket pictures are fair game because it's public and the person who put their picture there knows this.

Top

» 10. Don't post pictures of any of your students or schools.
This could get you fired if your contracting organization finds out. I'm sure we all love our students, but their parents would not be happy if their son/daughter's picture was posted on the internet without their permission.

Top

» 11. Keep your avatars and signatures work safe.
Also, try not to have them be annoying either. I don't want to see a flashing "Goku" signature with a NIN song lyric written on it that will cause me to go into an epileptic seizure. In other words, try not to make it too distracting. I'll give you a replacement if you do; and you probably won't like it.

Top

» 12. Keep an open mind and a sense of humor.
Just because someone doesn't agree with our point of view or religion doesn't make them stupid, etc.

Top

» 13. Keep appropriate discussion in the correct forum.
If you acidently post in the wrong forum, PM me and I'll fix it.

Top

» 14. Offensive terms may be bannable based on context of the sentence.
This rule is completely, 100% subjective and is based on the mod reading the post at the time and my overall decision. In other words, you're better of refraining from using racial & hate slurs.

Top

» 15. Being an officer of HAJET doesn't mean you can break the rules.
The same goes for mods.

Top

» 16. No mod sass.
If you don't like something, tell them in a professional manner. Calling a mod "Hitler" won't help your cause. If a mod makes fun of you or something, you can do the same. I (Kagemusha) have to approve all bans/probations anyway so I'll make sure they're just.

Top

» 17. Not reading the rules will get you probated or banned.
There is no excuse for not reading and knowing the rules.

Top

» 18. Don't do anything that would cause problems with the forums or the users
If you don't someone could cause problems in your name.

Top

» 19. If you are using a public computer, don't forget to logout!
An example would be malicious code in an image in your sig.

Top

» 20. No spamming the forums or asking us to help you get a free iPod by signing up for something.
This includes pyramid schemes

Top

» 21. These rules are flexible depending on the context and content of your post.
Just follow the rules though, it's better that way.

Top

» 22. If you troll, do something stupid or are generally a jerk, expect to get a custom title.
You won't be able to change it back either.

Image / File Rules
» 1. No posting of "not work safe" images.
Some of us may be reading the forums at our schools. If you simply must post a risque image, only link it and MARK IT the "NWS" emoticon around the link ( :nws: ). Posting pornography directly will get you banned and everyone will know why. This goes for "Not Mind Save" images too. There are some scary/horrible images out there on the internet.

Top

» 2. Keep all images smaller than 600 pixels horizontal and about 800 pixels vertical.
If you want to post something bigger, post a thumbnail and then link the picture to the thumbnail. You can also use the [thumb]http://www.websitehere.com/image.jpg[/thumb] code that will shrink the image to size. Also, make sure all images are hosted on your own server, on an image hosting website or as an attachment (which hosts it on my server). Using other people's bandwidth for leeching is not cool. Link it rather than posting it if you have to.

Top

» 3. Don't post "warez" or files that are of questionable nature & origin.
This would be cracked programs, license codes, DVD rips and etc. There are plenty of places to get this stuff, but it won't be here. This will get you banned for sure.

Top

» 4. Modding and homebrew discussion is OK, but posting Playstation 2 game ISOs aren't.
Use your head here.

Top

» 5. No torrents links.
I don't care if the latest "Lost" episode came out, don't link the torrent. If you don't know what a torrent is, then you don't need to worry about it. You can link the website that might have it though. I just don't want a direct link to the torrent file or download.
